WHAT DOES THE PERSON WE DARE NOT LOSE COST US?
A practical workshop with Alexander Balabanov
“Yes, we know what he’s like, but…”
Almost every organization has someone like this. A high-performing salesperson. A key expert. A manager with excellent results. Someone with vast knowledge and experience—someone we feel we simply cannot do without.
Yet, their behavior weighs heavily on those around them.
We know what it would cost us to lose them. But have we ever calculated what it costs us to keep them?
The people who leave because of them. The ideas that no longer get shared. The mistakes that get covered up. The tension within the team. The reputation that reaches potential candidates long before they even see a job posting.
What can we do?
In this workshop, we will turn that notorious “but” into concrete figures, solutions, and actions.
We will separate the individual from their behavior and examine the price the organization is paying.
We will explore questions such as:
- What is the cost of losing a key person?
- And what is the cost of retaining them when their behavior harms others?
- At what point does an “irreplaceable” person start costing more than the value they contribute?
- How do you have a conversation with someone who delivers excellent results but also creates conflict?
- What should we do if this person is a manager? What if it’s our own boss? Or even the CEO? - So, what are the next steps when a conversation changes nothing?
You will work with real-life scenarios from your own team and calculate two specific figures: the cost of losing someone versus the cost of retaining them.
What will you take away?
A clearer picture of the true cost of problematic behavior within your team.
Concrete solutions for a situation you have likely been putting off.
And the opening line for the conversation you need to have.
About the Speaker
Alexander Balabanov, PhD, has been working with managers and teams for over 12 years—ranging from newly promoted team leads to C-level executives. His experience spans diverse sectors, including aviation, IT, banking, and manufacturing across Bulgaria, Malta, and the rest of Europe. He has spent hundreds of hours working directly with teams operating under high-stress conditions. Rather than relying on mere impressions, he measures actual change in every manager—before and after his intervention. He is the founder of DynamixLab and Leaders Path Academy. He speaks openly about topics that, in most companies, are only discussed in private, informal chats over coffee.
“The question isn’t whether we can afford to lose that ‘irreplaceable’ person on the team. The question is whether we can afford to keep their behavior.”
