Africa Day 2025 is traditionally celebrated with a daytime and an evening program. For the first time in Bulgaria in 2025, the highlight of the one-day festival Africa Day will be an African performer who has become an international star. With a recognized and acknowledged talent, powerful creative presence and social commitment, WIYAALA / Ghana / will appear on the same stage with her group from Slovenia - The Yaga Yagas.

Wiyaala, which means "the performer" of Sissali, is from Funsi in the Upper West Region of Ghana. Her music combines West African folk traditions with contemporary Afro-pop, creating a unique musical experience.

A vibrant extrovert since childhood, Wiyaala is an award-winning African star who captivates audiences with her unparalleled energy and talent. She has performed for dignitaries such as Vice President Kamala Harris and many African presidents, as well as at prestigious events including WOMAD UK, The African Games, The Commonwealth Games, SummerStage in New York and numerous international festivals.

Wiyaala has released three albums, “Wiyaala” (2014), Sissala Goddess (2018) and “African Polyglot” 2024, the latter of which is being considered for a Grammy nomination by the Recording Academy in 2025.

Beyond her stage presence, Wiyaala is a symbol of empowerment. She creates her own unique costumes, enhancing her artistic stage presence. She is a role model in her community, having built a stage, a guesthouse and a restaurant. It hosts concerts for visitors and jam nights for local artists and children, nurturing future talents.
