SÓLSTAFIR coming to Sofia on November 12
Icelandic post metal visionaries present “Eastbound and Down 2026” at the capital’s Mixtape 5 club
Formed in Reykjavik in the mid-90s, Sólstafir started their journey in the Icelandic black metal scene, but over the next three decades they gradually destroyed the boundaries of the genre. Today, Sólstafir combine the heaviness of metal with the atmosphere of post-rock, psychedelic and classic rock. Their music goes from raw energy and powerful guitars to melancholic and beautiful moments, carrying with it the unique spirit of Iceland.
This is one of those bands where the heaviness doesn’t just come from the guitars. It comes from the atmosphere, from the space between the individual notes, from the sudden outbursts and from the feeling of cold, loneliness and vast landscapes, which seems to be built into Sólstafir’s music itself.
In November, the band will embark on Eastbound and Down 2026 – a seven-date tour of Switzerland and the Balkans, including dates in Zagreb, Belgrade, Bucharest, Sofia, Thessaloniki and Athens. For Sólstafir, this will be the first solo concert in Bulgaria since 2015. During their previous two visits to our country, the band was a special guest at the concerts of Apocalyptica and Amorphis.
With eight studio albums and more than 30 years of history, Sólstafir already have a catalog that contains a number of songs that have become modern classics. The setlist of the tour will include both new compositions and iconic tracks such as “Fjara”, “Ótta” and “Pale Rider”, as well as songs from albums such as Köld, Svartir Sandar, Ótta and Berdreyminn.
On November 12, Mixtape 5 will be the place where the Icelandic rawness, melancholy and scale of Sólstafir will meet the audience in Sofia.
