On March 21st, Mixtape 5 (B-Side) brings together two bands from the new Balkan guitar scene. Bearing Flowers and Golemeta Voda come from different cities, but move in a similar sonic territory – a place where shoegaze textures, contemporary emo and a difficult-to-explain urban melancholy intertwine in a common language.

 

At 9:00 PM, Bearing Flowers will present their new single and their first official release with Samodiva Society. The record was produced by Nikola Nikolov from TDK – a band that in recent years has become one of the most challenging and discussed phenomena in Bulgarian alternative music.

 

Kaloyan Peev (guitar and vocals), Ivaylo Bilyarski (drums), Marta Ilieva (bass and backing vocals) and Marko Atanasov (guitar) describe themselves semi-ironically as a Shopian Midwest emo band, but there is something accurate in this definition: a sound that is both local and open, dirty and sensitive. The result doesn’t sound like a nostalgic return to genre formulas, but rather a restless continuation of a tradition in which intimacy and tension intertwine into one.

 

At 8:00 PM, the stage is set for Golemeta Voda from Skopje. Formed in 2024, the band quickly shapes a sound that captures a sense of urban nostalgia and translates it through tense guitar textures and unexpected dynamic turns. Their songs often begin in a seemingly calm space, where melancholic riffs and smooth bass lines move almost hypnotically, before the composition gradually thickens and reaches more intense moments. In this constant shift between contemplation and sudden energy lies the band’s strength. Golemeta Voda work with a sound that can equally easily immerse you in an almost dreamlike atmosphere or abruptly pull you out of it, leaving you with the feeling of something both familiar and hard to name.
