Ploho (RU) live at Club Pave

Siberian post-punk band Ploho arrives in Sofia with their new album “Soil”

 

Known for their melancholic melodies and nostalgic lyrics, Siberian post-punk band Ploho will perform in Sofia in March at Club Pave.

 

Formed in Novosibirsk and currently based in Belgrade, the trio is among the most prominent representatives of the “new wave of Russian music”, combining post-punk and new wave with a cold lo-fi sound.

 

Founded in 2013, Ploho draws inspiration from the aesthetics and sounds of the late 80s and early 90s, capturing the emotional essence of the decline of the Soviet Union. Their music tells stories of life in industrial Siberia, exploring themes such as loneliness, nostalgia and resilience, conveyed through a raw and deeply human perspective.

 

Their latest album, “Soil”, marks a significant moment in Ploho’s journey. Created during a period of profound personal and global turmoil, the album not only references the ghosts of the past, but also reflects the harsh reality of the present. With a minimalist, raw and austere sound, it captures the anxiety and melancholy of a changing world, creating a deeply introspective atmosphere, charged with anti-capitalist and existential nuances. Despite the heavy themes, the album offers moments of melancholic lightness, conveyed through spectral synthesizer melodies and sounds inspired by the 80s, creating a captivating and danceable journey through human fragility and hope.

 

With a discography that includes four studio albums, numerous EPs and collaborations with artists such as Molchat Doma, Ploho have performed concerts across Europe and beyond, captivating audiences with their atmospheric live performances. Often compared to Joy Division, their sound reflects the austere architecture of the Soviet era and evokes emotions that resonate across time and borders.

 

The concert at the Pave club will feature songs from "Pochva" as well as fan favorites from their extensive discography.
