50 Years Hip Hop@Malkata Tekila Sofia 21.12.2023

Let's rewind the tape exactly 50 years back and find ourselves in the Bronx, New York, where a new genre of music was born. We'll start from the beginning with the likes of DJ Kool Herc and Grandmaster Flash, move on to Run-DMC, Biggy, Tupac, Wu-Tang Clan, Eminem, Snoop, Kanye and end with the present-days.

 

On December 21, at Malkata Tekila Sofia, we will be celebrating 50 years since hip-hop became the number one culture and style on the music scene. Rawland, Samm the Man & Alphabet will be performing along with our special guests from North Macedonia, DJ Chavre, and DJ Goce.

 

Rawland is a highly popular beatmaker in the local music scene. Apart from his exceptional beat-making skills, he is also known for his love of music collection, which he has been nurturing since the age of seven. At the age of 14, Rawland began producing music and has since then created numerous popular remixes and original tracks.

 

Samm The Man & Alphabet have been DJing for over a decade. They are hip-hop enthusiasts who constantly strive to broaden their horizons with style. By experimenting with various genres using two turntables, they ensure that the dance floor is never empty until the early hours of the morning.

DJ Goce is International DJ and Producer from Skopje, Macedonia. His involvement in music starts in the early 90’s as founding member of the, now legendary, Hip Hop collective S.A.F. Hip Hop took him on a long journey of digging and exploring music through the years, expanding his vinyl collection and going further into Rare Grooves, Breaks , Soul, Jazz, Funk and more, developing his production and DJ-ing skills and style along the way.

 

Born In Skopje, Macedonia in 1983, DJ Chvare grew up listening to hip hop, funk, soul, jazz and reggae.  Inspired by the old school sound of hip hop he started spinning records in local bars around Skopje when he was 17 and turned out to be one of the most distinguished DJs in Macedonia since. Having spent many years playing at all of the major local night clubs (alongside local hard-hitters and national acts alike), holding multiple residencies, DJing special events and promoting his own shows, DJ Chvare has had a lot of time to develop his sound in various styles and genres with a focus on hip hop, funk and jazz.
